Jermaine Pennant has questioned what has happened to Tomas Soucek at West Ham United because he is now an ‘imposter’.
When David Moyes was at Everton, given the lack of money he had to spend, he had a great knack to find gems in the market, such as Marouane Fellaini.
The Belgian moved to Goodison Park in 2008 from Standard Liège and went on to become a bit of a cult hero at the club.
Just over ten years later and Moyes was at it again, this time in the colours of West Ham United when he secured the unknown services of Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague.
The 28-year-old would wow the Hammers faithful in his first full season in the Premier League, including scoring ten goals from the middle of the park.
But, fast forward to the present, and the Czech Republic international has lost that spark to his game, according to former Premier League footballer Jermaine Pennant, as he told talkSPORT.

“I watch Soucek now and I think ‘what’s happened to him?’ “ asked Pennant.
“He’s an imposter. He can’t run anymore. He can’t tackle and he can’t head.”

Big pressure on Soucek after Rice’s exit
In terms of the Premier League last season, a number of West Ham players fell off, big time.
They saved themselves by winning the Europa Conference League, but now their star man in the middle of the park – Declan Rice – has headed for the exit door.
As of this moment, no new faces have arrived, which will just annoy fans further, but it does put extra pressure on the likes of Soucek to step up and deliver ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
He needs to find that magic to his game again, or else, his decline will just continue.
