Former Manchester United midfielder and UEFA Europa League champion Marouane Fellaini has likened West Ham star Tomas Soucek to himself.

Speaking to the Athletic, the ex-Belgium international claimed that the Czech Republic international has similar qualities to that of what Fellaini possessed during his younger years in football.

The 33-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng, was one of the top players in his position during his time with Everton under now-Hammers boss David Moyes.

In their final season together, Fellaini scored 11 goals in the Premier League alone, as well as registering six assists. Indeed, this form saw Moyes bring the towering Belgian to Old Trafford for £27m according to BBC Sport.

Whilst that spell almost ruined Moyes’ reputation in football, the Scottish manager is now back to top form with West Ham. The Irons are currently fourth in the Premier League. And Fellaini believes that in Soucek, they have a player who can take them to the top.

The 33-year-old said about the Czech superstar: “Soucek reminds me of my younger self. He’s a good box-to-box midfielder, he can score goals, he’s an important player for the team. Moyes is so good at finding players like Soucek.”

It’s crazy to think how much of an impact Soucek has made at West Ham since arriving in 2020. Yet it is a testament to the change the club have endured under Moyes in the past 12 months.

The Hammers have been completely transformed by the Scotsman. And Soucek has been the embodiment of that change, with the West Ham star now one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.
