Can Tottenham recall Destiny Udogie? Many Spurs fans have been wondering as they close in on a £40m deal to sign Pedro Porro.

Tottenham supporters have become increasingly agitated over their wing-back options this season, as the likes of Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon all fail to impress.

Given the fact Antonio Conte has built title winning sides at Chelsea and Inter Milan around marauding wing-backs, the Italian’s lack of quality options in that department is a significant concern in N17.

So, can Tottenham recall Udogie from his loan spell at Udinese? Let’s take a look…

Can Tottenham recall Destiny Udogie?

Well, some Tottenham fans may have forgotten that Udogie was even signed.

Back in August, Spurs agreed a £15m deal with Udinese for the exciting Italy Under-21 international, who has made a name for himself as one of the best left wing-backs in Italy.

The 20-year-old earned his move to Tottenham after impressively scoring five goals in 35 Serie A appearances last season, while also providing three assists.

Spurs agreed to loan Udogie back to Udinese for the 2022/23 campaign as part of the deal.

Unfortunately for those hoping to see the Italian make an early return to north London, Tottenham can no longer activate their option to recall the Verona-born sensation.

Messaggero Veneto in Italy claimed that Spurs negotiated an option to recall Udogie if Udinese did not use him enough in the first half of the campaign.

However, the Udinese No.13 has been a regular under Andrea Sottil, with the aforementioned Italian news outlet stating that the Serie A side have played the defender enough to void Tottenham’s recall option.

Therefore, Spurs fans will have to wait until next season before they see Udogie joining Porro in the wing-back positions.

For now, Conte will have to make do with Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic in the left wing-back department.

Interestingly, Porro’s imminent arrival from Sporting Lisbon has seen Doherty granted permission to leave.

The Republic of Ireland international is now heading to Atlético Madrid on loan for the rest of the season.

Hopefully, Udogie continues to impress in Italy, and can avoid any serious injuries ahead of his return to Tottenham at the end of the season.
