Andriy Yarmolenko scored his 44th goal in international football as Ukraine drew 1-1 with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday, leading some West Ham fans to react on social media.

The Irons forward broke the deadlock at the Arena Lviv after 15-minutes to hand Oleksandr Petrakov’s side the lead. Anel Ahmedhodzic would salvage a point for Ivaylo Petev’s visitors with 13-minutes left on the clock.

The draw saw Ukraine stay three-points behind Group D leaders France, who have played one fewer World Cup qualifiers. Ukraine are unbeaten over their seven games so far with one win and six draws before visiting Bosnia-Herzegovina in November.

Yarmolenko has started Ukraine’s last four World Cup qualifiers, having missed their earlier games during the March international break while recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained during West Ham’s FA Cup fifth-round defeat at Manchester United in February.

The Old Trafford affair marked a rare start for the 31-year-old last season, with just one opening Premier League role. He made a total of seven starts over 21 appearances in all competitions last term, with 362-minutes of top-flight football. Additionally, his only goals came in the FA Cup (1) and EFL Cup (2), while providing one of four assists in the league.

Yarmolenko has again played a bit-part role in West Ham’s fixtures so far this season, too. The 104-cap winger has made two starts – one in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester United and one in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna – over nine outings so far. He has also only played 206-minutes altogether, and is yet to score or provide a single assist.

West Ham fans react to Ukraine scoring again for Ukraine

So, Yarmolenko scoring again for Ukraine sparked some West Ham fans to react on social media. That’s because some question how their £17.5m signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 is able to deliver consistently on the international stage, but not in east London.

The £115k-a-week forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has scored in both of Ukraine’s World Cup qualifiers this month. He had also opened the scoring for Petrakov’s side as they beat Finland 2-1 at the Olympiastadion Helsinki on Saturday.

Yarmolenko registered his 44th Ukraine goal in their win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the West Ham fringe player drilling a right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner from six-yards out. He may hope to carry that form into West Ham’s trip to Everton on Sunday.

So, here are some of the messages West Ham fans shared on Yarmolenko scoring again as Ukraine drew with Bosnia-Herzegovina…
