Alan Shearer has stated that Everton is a ‘tough’ club to run and they are in a ‘mess’ after the under-pressure Frank Lampard watched his side suffer a 4-1 loss to Brighton on Tuesday night in the Premier League.

The former Premier League striker stated that Everton have ‘wasted’ money over the years and he also questioned can all the eight managers they have had in the past decade be wrong.

If anything summed up the Toffees, then those six minutes after the break against Brighton summed up the team when they conceded three horror goals.

At 1-0 down, the pressure was already on the home team from the fans, so when Brighton made it four, then those toxic levels inside Goodison Park just increased.

Last season, Everton survived relegation by the skin of their teeth and it seems as though something similar will be needed again.

As per with the ruthless and short nature of football management, the pressure is well and truly on Lampard, but Shearer was critical of other people, as he told Premier League Productions (03/01/23 at 10:35 pm).

On where this leaves Lampard: “It’s going to be tough. It’s a tough football club, whoever goes in there,” said Shearer. “I mean Frank’s the eighth manager in nine years, permanent manager, as well as a couple of caretaker stints. That tells you, it’s a mess of a football club, from top to bottom. There are other people at that football club, who need to take responsibility.

“Can eight managers in nine years, can all of them be wrong? Three or four might be, but eight?! I get in previous years, they have spent an absolute fortune and wasted an absolute fortune. But who has been buying those players?

“Now it looks like not a lot is available, in terms of finance, for whatever reason. Who thinks it was a good idea to splash the cash on bang-average players for ridiculous amounts of money? If you want to use a football club ‘how not to spend’, then use Everton – it seems from the outside that everything is fragile.”

MONEY BUT NO BRAINS

It just goes to show, spend as much money as you want, but it can still make you worse, as Everton have proven since Farhad Moshiri took ownership of the club.

From different managers to different CEOs/Head of recruitments, one thing that has been a constant is Mohsiri is still running the ship.

The key and biggest issues at Goodison Park clearly lie with those in the boardroom.

Yes, Lampard will now be under serious pressure and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s out of the door during the next few days, but that wouldn’t change what lies deep-rooted inside the Merseyside club.
