This week has promoted speculation about Calvin Bassey leaving Rangers.
The 22-year-old was absolutely immense for 120 minutes on Wednesday night as the Gers suffered heartbreak in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, losing on penalties.
Bassey was Rangers’ best player on the night by a million miles and unsurprisingly, there is now speculation about his future at Ibrox.
That follows on the back of more rumours about a transfer to the Premier League, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also reportedly keen on the powerhouse.
However, the player himself has revealed to Premier Sports after Sautrday’s victory that he is perfectly happy in Glasgow and not contemplating a summer move away.
He said: “I thank god and thank my team-mates. It’s not a one man team. Without them I would not be where I am. I’m focused here. I’m getting ready to come back in pre-season fitter than I was last season.”
Big boost?
Absolutely it is good news.
Calvin Bassey leaving Rangers this summer would be terrible for the light Blues , particularly if Steven Gerrard – who signed him for the Scottish Premiership side – brings him to Aston Villa.
With Connor Goldson likely to be leaving Ibrox, it could be a summer of transition for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
In other words, the Gers will need as much stability as possible and, as proven against the Germans this week, solidity and Bassey go hand in hand.
