Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark revealed that applesauce was behind the halftime illness that briefly interrupted her night against the Atlanta Dream.

Clark still helped the Fever secure an 83-71 win, finishing with 17 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds in 31 minutes. The box score looked steady, but the scene before the second half was far less comfortable.

The moment became a talking point because Clark did not disappear after getting sick. She returned, kept running the offense, and helped Indiana close out a needed response after a tense stretch around the team.

Caitlin Clark explains Indiana Fever scare against Atlanta Dream

Chloe Peterson shared Caitlin Clark’s explanation after the Indiana Fever win, with the guard making clear that a halftime snack did not stay down.

“I tried to eat some applesauce, and then it just came up, and then everything else in my stomach also came up. I thought I was gonna stay down, but then I found a trash can, thank God,” Clark said.

The explanation was blunt, funny, and slightly grim, which is why it traveled so quickly. Clark made the moment sound more like a bad locker-room inconvenience than a serious concern.

Her ability to return mattered more than the awkward visual. Indiana needed her ball-handling, pace, and decision-making against Atlanta, especially in a game the Fever wanted after several days of scrutiny.

Caitlin Clark felt lighter as Indiana Fever beat Atlanta Dream

Clark later admitted the episode was more intense than a normal upset stomach. The strange part was that it appeared to help her reset once the second half began.

“I haven’t puked that much in a really long time. But then I felt fine. I felt light. So I was running around feeling good in the second half, but [I] feel OK. Obviously, I’m losing my voice a little bit. But I’ll be good,” Clark stated.

Clark shot 6-for-17 and 2-for-8 from three, but she controlled enough of the game as a passer and organizer to keep Indiana moving.

Stephanie White praised the energy Clark used on both ends, and the Fever needed that kind of edge. The illness made the night stranger, but Clark’s return helped make sure it still ended as a win.
