Cadillac are closing in on their very first campaign as a Formula 1 constructor, with the American constructor’s livery reveal set to take place during Super Bowl LX.
American Formula 1 fans finally have a genuine racing outfit to put their support behind now that Cadillac are joining some of the biggest manufacturers in the world on the grid.
Yes, Haas have technically been America’s F1 team since their debut in 2016, but considering the majority of their operation takes place in the United Kingdom and Italy, it’s difficult to put them in the same boat as a fully-fledged US outfit.
While Cadillac will utilise Ferrari power, like Haas, they have plans to transition into a works-equipped team by 2029, meaning that everything that is seen out on the race track will be developed inside their state-of-the-art new base in Indiana.
Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss reveals why they will be launching their 2026 F1 car at the Super Bowl
During an interview with The Athletic, Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss recalled the moment he came up with the idea of launching their 2026 F1 car at the Super Bowl.
After the team’s announcement that Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez would be returning to F1 with Cadillac went viral, Towriss asked his wife, “What’s the most American thing we can do to reveal the livery for the first-ever Cadillac Formula 1 livery?”
The interview then states that they both paused and looked at each other, before Towriss blurted out, “Super Bowl commercial!”
Towriss went on to elaborate on his decision-making, adding, “It’s the storytelling. That’s what draws people in to really understand and make them interested in what’s happening here. And we do want to be different.
“We didn’t come into Formula 1 to look like every other team, to copy what McLaren is doing or what Mercedes is doing. We want to bring our own authentic and unique approach to that, which is going to be very much a distinctly American brand by leaning into that entertainment aspect.
“You saw that in the driver announcement. You’re going to see a similar thing in the Super Bowl commercial.”
Lewis Hamilton previously highlighted how he sees NFL legend Tom Brady as a ‘role model’
The influence of the NFL has been present in Formula 1 for several years now, through the global reach of F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton.
In a 2023 interview with Formula 1, the seven-time world champion disclosed just how influential NFL legend Tom Brady has been on his career.
He said, “I think I look at people like Tom Brady, who’s such an incredible athlete and has shown what can be done today. He’s the real role model, in that respect, I think for all athletes to be able to look at.”
“I’m really, really fortunate that I’ve been able to speak to him to understand, as well, what he’s done, what he does consistently to keep himself in shape, and he’s expressed it in the media anyway.”
