Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has shared the latest on Enzo Fernandez’s future as transfer speculation continues to run rampant about the Argentine.
Liverpool have been strongly linked, but over the past few days it appears that Chelsea have nudged ahead in the race to sign the Benfica star.
Jones is led to believe that the reports of Chelsea leading this race are true, and he’s gone as far as to say that he’s been told that this deal could be official by the end of this week.
Fernandez moving quickly
Jones shared what he knows about this deal.
“It’s going to be one of the most expensive transfers ever done. As we record right now it’s not official, but everything I’m being told is to expect that by the end of this week it may well be,” Jones said.
“That’s why we’re putting this at the top of the show today. When we talk about big transfers that have happened so far, this one doesn’t seem to be too far away.”
Just in time
Chelsea need reinforcements as soon as possible, so the fact that Fernandez may well be through the door this week is a huge boost to the Blues.
The west London club are in torrid form right now, and that’s down to their struggles in midfield, so getting Fernandez signed up will certainly help them get back on track.
Of course, a 21-year-old midfielder may not be the solution to all of Graham Potter’s problems at the club, but this is most definitely a step in the right direction.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, it looks like they have lost the race for Fernandez’s signature to Chelsea.
