Liverpool have reportedly spoken to Jorge Mendes over the potential signing of Enzo Fernandez, with interest in the Benfica midfielder from Premier League sides ramping up in recent days.
90min claim that the Reds, alongside Manchester United and Chelsea, have all been in contact with the Portuguese super-agent over Fernandez, who is set to win a blockbuster move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the January transfer window.
Fernandez was one of the best players at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the 21-year-old helped Argentina win their third world title, with the youngster being named Young Player of the Tournament and being lauded by Lionel Messi as ‘spectacular’ out in Qatar.
With a reported release clause of £106m, it will take a club-record effort from Liverpool to sign Fernandez, who in recent days now looks closer to joining Chelsea than the Anfield giants. Though as we know in the market, anything can happen.

Indeed, Liverpool’s interest in Fernandez has been around for some time, and the Reds’ approach to Mendes could be a big indicator that the Merseyside giants are ready to go all the way to sign the Argentine midfielder, who could solve a lot of problems for Jurgen Klopp.
As we know, midfield is a position that Liverpool could do with some serious investment into in 2023, and whilst Fernandez would exceed £100m, the 21-year-old would be an exceptional signing given how good the youngster has been for club and country this year.
Liverpool have to proceed with signing Enzo Fernandez

Liverpool have already made one impressive signing ahead of January in Netherlands international Cody Gakpo, and the Premier League giants can make another one in Fernandez if they can once again go about their business in an efficient manner.
Improving on the midfield will be a major boost to Liverpool’s hopes of a top-four finish this season, and with the Reds now in contact with Mendes over Fernandez, there’s every chance that the Merseyside club can pull off something truly amazing in the January window.
