Darren Ambrose thinks Tottenham Hotspur can’t sell Harry Kane this summer and replace him with someone like Richarlison because you are ‘getting rid of guaranteed goals’.

Even though Harry Kane has 12 months left to run on his Tottenham contract and he can leave for free next summer, Spurs-supporting pundit Ambrose doesn’t want him to go, as he told talkSPORT.

That Bayern Munich cloud just isn’t going away and it will continue to raise the question of whether Kane leave his boyhood club this summer.

If he does, then manager Ange Postecoglou needs to use whatever money they get to re-invest.

And equally, it puts huge pressure on someone like Richarlison, who after his £60 million transfer from Everton (Sky Sports) last summer, only managed to score one Premier League goal last term.

That’s probably why former Newcastle midfielder Ambrose would be willing to lose money on Kane because, whether it’s Richarlison or somebody else, he doesn’t think his goals will be replicated.

“It’s a gamble,” said Ambrose. “But to get rid of guaranteed goals. You can say Richarlison could come in and maybe he will play in the position he wants. He might score 15 goals. This is all ‘might’ and ‘ifs’.

“Harry Kane is guaranteed goals – you can’t replace Harry Kane with £80 million.”

Make or break for Richarlison

That debut campaign at Hotspur Way was one to forget for Richarlison. The 26-year-old just couldn’t get going, even though it was Antonio Conte that brought him in.

Yes, not playing down the middle doesn’t help, but with a more attack-minded manager in the dugout, perhaps the Brazil star can get some more goals from the wide areas.

Those first few games of the season are going to be very challenging for Richarlison because, if he doesn’t get off to a great start or get on the scoresheet, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if his own fans start getting on his back.
