Vincent Kompany’s Burnley are in talks to sign Germany U21 international Jordan Beyer on a season-long loan from Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach, as reported by Sky Sports (1 September, 11.57am).

A 22-year-old centre-half who can also play at right-back or in defensive midfield, Beyer ticks a lot of boxes for this new-look Burnley side; he’s young, adaptable and would arrive at Turf Moor with a point to prove on English soil.

Capped twice by Germany at U21 level, Beyer has fallen down the pecking order at Borussia Park since the arrival of former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke. Per Bild, he has now been released from training as he enters talks over a deadline day departure.

As things stand, Burnley appear to be the most likely destination. Talks to bring Beyer on a short-term loan are underway. He hopes to avoid a repeat of 12 months ago, when a move to Werder Bremen collapsed.

“It’s true that Werder wanted to take Jordan Beyer on loan,” Gladbach director Max Eberl said. “And we would have let him move to find more playing time.

“But after Stefan Lainer’s injury, Jordan is too important for us, and the loan deal is no longer a possibility.”

Beyer, once described as a ‘man for the future’ by Monchengladbach team-mate Nico Elvedi after an impressive DFB Pokal performance against Borussia Dortmund, would add further competition and depth in Kompany’s promotion-chasing Burnley squad.

The Clarets are also hoping to bring in a new centre-forward.

Brentford’s Halil Dervisoglu is an option. Ditto Aston Villa starlet Cameron Archer. Swansea boss Russell Martin, meanwhile, confirms that a bid has been rejected for the £10 million-rated Michael Obafemi (Wales Online).
