Liverpool boss Arne Slot has yet to bring in a new signing this summer but the end of the transfer window could be a busy one – especially for Sepp van den Berg.

The Premier League season is drawing closer and closer as Arne Slot prepares for his first campaign in English football.

The Dutchman was a somewhat surprising choice to replace Jurgen Klopp but the Liverpool icon threw his support behind Slot on the final day of last season.

Slot has certainly impressed with his style of play in pre-season, bringing more of a possession-based approach than Klopp.

Harvey Elliott loves Slot’s approach, branding his tactics ‘very elegant’ having caught the eye this summer.

Liverpool appear to be on the right path in the Slot era but there may still be some business to do before the end of the window.

Sepp van den Berg attracting interest

Liverpool fans would love a new signing having endured a quiet summer so far.

The Reds are back in the market for a holding midfielder but a deal for Martin Zubimendi could be difficult.

Liverpool may also offload some players and defender Sepp van den Berg may be primed for a departure.

The Dutch centre back has returned to Anfield once again after loan spells at Preston North End, Schalke and Mainz.

Van den Berg was superb in the Bundesliga last season and has been given chances under compatriot Slot this summer.

Wolfsburg are now interest though and Kicker claim that they truly believe they have a chance to strike a deal.

The Bundesliga side want to strike a permanent deal for Van den Berg and he is thought to be keen on settling down in Germany having spent the last two seasons there.

It will all come down to whether Liverpool want to move Van den Berg on or keep him for Slot to use this season.

Another loan seems unlikely, so it’s either stay or be sold for Van den Berg – and Wolfsburg would love to welcome him with open arms.

Wolfsburg left waiting on Maxence Lacroix

The potential hold-up for Wolfsburg surrounds defender Maxence Lacroix.

The French centre back is out of contract in 2025 and may look to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Wolfsburg fancy Van den Berg to replace Lacroix but an exit for him doesn’t seem imminent.

Crystal Palace have been linked with Lacroix given that manager Oliver Glasner coached him at Wolfsburg.

Kicker claim that Wolfsburg haven’t heard from Palace about any deal though, meaning they can’t advance on a replacement.

This leaves a holding pattern; until Palace move for Lacroix, Wolfsburg may not be able to sign Van den Berg.

Both deals may run a little longer yet, but the transfer deadline is just a handful of weeks away and all clubs and players involved will want clarity sooner rather than later.
