The Buffalo Bills are eyeing a new leader to guide the franchise forward after parting ways with Sean McDermott, and one emerging candidate stands out for his strong connection to superstar quarterback Josh Allen.
With Allen’s long-term future seen as central to the team’s success, the next head coach’s relationship with the MVP signal-caller could be a major factor in shaping Buffalo’s direction.
Keeping Allen in Western New York has been a priority for the franchise, highlighted by his record-setting contract extension and his expressed desire to spend his entire career with the Bills.
Allen’s presence has helped Buffalo become one of the NFL’s most consistently competitive teams, and retaining him as the centerpiece of the roster remains crucial as the organization enters a new coaching era.

Candidate has “unbelievable relationship” with Josh Allen
One coach being discussed as a potential successor is Davis Webb, currently quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Denver Broncos and a former Bills backup quarterback.
According to NFL insider James Palmer, Webb’s ties to Allen are a big part of his appeal to the Bills’ decision-makers.
“He’s a really intriguing candidate in this head coaching cycle. He’s talking to Josh [Allen], they have an unbelievable relationship, I’m told, when talking to people in the organization.
“He knows so many people there,” Palmer said.
Webb spent three seasons with Buffalo as Allen’s teammate and later developed into a rising coaching prospect.
That history of working with Allen and understanding the franchise’s culture could make him a strong fit if the Bills prioritize continuity alongside new leadership.
Interest in Davis Webb may grow if teams wait
With multiple coaching vacancies and the NFL head-coaching cycle still underway, sources familiar with the situation suggest Webb’s interview opportunities could expand once other teams wrap up their seasons.
“Nobody can interview him right now in person because they are in the AFC Championship… If teams are going to wait and their jobs are still open, multiple teams, I am told, are going to want to sit down with him,” Palmer concluded.
Webb’s profile has risen this cycle thanks in part to his work with quarterbacks in Denver and his familiarity with Allen from his playing days.
If the Bills do prioritize a candidate who can maintain rapport with their franchise quarterback and sustain the offense’s momentum, Webb’s name could figure prominently as the search accelerates.
