Speaking on BT Sport’s post-match coverage of Liverpool vs Atalanta (25/11/20 8PM kick-off), Michael Owen has claimed that Jurgen Klopp will be performing an inquest at Liverpool after both of Atalanta’s goals came from the same area.
Owen is right in what he’s saying, the Italian side’s goals both came from crosses from the left that were finished at the back post.
That’s certainly something that Klopp needs to look into as it was clearly a weakness for the Reds on Wednesday.
“Yeah I mean if you’re going to pick faults, both full-backs really, one let the cross go, one on the back post letting his man go,” Owen said.
“Both goals came from the same area really, so it might be a little point that Jurgen Klopp’s going to look at.”

For a man who spent his career as a striker, Owen is talking a lot of sense about defending.
The ex-Liverpool star is right, the full-backs let Liverpool down last night with their lackadaisical defending, and that’s something Klopp will need to look into.
To be fair, the German is used to having two of the best full-backs in the world in his XI with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, and at Anfield neither of those two started.
We wouldn’t expect to see such poor defending from Liverpool’s regular starters, but Klopp needs to work hard on the training ground so that this doesn’t happen again when Neco Williams and Kostas Tsimikas are called upon.
Tsimikas is a new signing, while Williams is a bright young talent, so we can excuse their unfamiliarity for now, but it’s something Klopp needs to sort going forward.
Owen says that Klopp will look into this problem, and it’s now up to the Liverpool manager to fix this issue and make sure it doesn’t arise again.
