Bryson DeChambeau has shared his delight at playing with fellow American Scottie Scheffler on day one of The Open.

The duo were joined by Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, and will link up again on Friday for day two of the major championship.

Is Scottie Scheffler more likely to win The Open or miss the cut at Royal Birkdale?

Scottie's worst Open finish is T23, but he did miss the cut at last week's Scottish Open

And it was DeChambeau who enjoyed the better round, posting a three-under 67 as Scheffler and Hatton finished on two-under and one-under respectively.

He has since analyzed his day, sharing his admiration for world number one Scheffler after their time together at Royal Birkdale.

Bryson DeChambeau loved playing with Scottie Scheffler on day one of The Open

Discussing his satisfaction of starting a major championship well, DeChambeau commented: “Yeah, definitely satisfying.

“Any time you get off to a great start, it’s awesome, but there’s three more days, dude. There’s still a lot of golf to be played.

“But ultimately from my perspective I was really excited about the way I played.

“It was fun playing with Scottie, seeing how good he strikes the ball. That’s something… I’ve wanted to play with him for a while now.

“Seeing how he struck the ball today was beautiful.

“Makes me think, oh, man, I’ve got to work on my driving and 3-wood a little bit better because I hit it farther than him, but it sometimes doesn’t go straight.”

And when asked if it helps to play with the best player in the world, Scheffler, he replied: “Definitely. It’s a good gauge, right?

“It tells me kind of where my game’s at. Also shows me where he’s at.

“It’s good to see it in person. You always see it on TV, but it’s just a little different sometimes when you’re right there.

“That’s why it’s cool for people to be out here and see what Scottie and myself and Tyrrell can do, and everybody out here.

“It’s a great bunch of guys, and it was fun to play today.”

Starting strongly at The Open, all three players will now be looking to continue their momentum on day two in Southport, after which the cut will be made.

Bryson DeChambeau really enjoying his time at The Open so far

A two-time major winner, DeChambeau also discussed just how much he is enjoying his week at Royal Birkdale so far.

“I’m having a lot of fun,” he said.

“If I can keep it going and give the crowd something to cheer for on Sunday, that’s all I can ask for.”

DeChambeau has given fans plenty to cheer about over the years, with his loyal supporters overjoyed when he won the US Open in 2020 and 2024.

But more recently, the LIV Golf superstar should be feeling that he has a massive point to prove, having missed the cut at all three previous majors this season.
