DeChambeau has really struggled in the major championships this season.

Nobody expected him to play well at The Open this week, but if his first round is anything to go by, he could be about to prove a lot of people wrong.

No, it shouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s an amazing player, he said.

It was then put to Hatton that a lot of people will be surprised by the American’s performance.

No, he flights the ball great, the Englishman replied.

His ball flight today was really good. He didn’t really hit many bad shots.

As I said, he’s an amazing player, and it shouldn’t really surprise anyone that he’s doing well.

Tyrrell Hatton comments on pace of play at The Open

Hatton was asked by reporters to share his opinion on the pace of play at Royal Birkdale on Thursday.

Yeah, it felt slow, the Englishman said.

I don’t know.

To be honest, the conditions we played in today were perfect, weren’t they? So in that sense, I don’t know if the golf course can — I don’t want to say play any easier.

It’s still challenging out there. But can you imagine if we had bad weather? It would be even longer.

I don’t know how the pace of play gets better. It’s obviously a big field. The par-5s were reachable.
