We preview the predicted line-ups ahead of the EFL Cup fourth round tie between Championship side Bristol City and Premier League strugglers Hull City.

Premier League Hull City travel to Ashton Gate this evening to face a Bristol City side fresh from their victory over Blackburn Rovers at the weekend. City’s 1-0 win over Rovers gave manager Lee Johnson a much needed boost after two successive defeats prior to Aaron Wilbraham’s 88th-minute winner.

This match will be the first time that Bristol City have reached the fourth round since the 1988-89 season, in which they progressed to the semi-finals.

Johnson may look to rest some of his major players for this EFL Cup tie and is already without the services of the injured winger Luke Freeman. The top scorer in this season’s EFL Cup, starlet Tammy Abraham, and midfielders Gary O’Neil and Jamie Paterson are likely to start from the bench or miss out completely – as Johnson will aim to give the likes of Corey Smith, Mark Little, Taylor Moore and goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell much needed minutes.

Bristol will be hoping that the talented Lee Tomlin and veteran forward Wilbraham will be able to take advantage of a Hull City defence that has conceded 22 goals in just nine Premier League games this season.

Predicted Bristol City line-up to face Hull City

Hull City are likely to replace under-fire goalkeeper David Marshall with Eldin Jakupovic as Mike Phelan’s side will aim to avoid a potential slip-up against the Championship outfit. Hull are likely to call upon first team members such as Tom Huddlestone, Curtis Davies, Ahmed Elmohamady and forward Abel Hernandez in an attempt to establish some much needed form and an increase in morale, after some disappointing recent results.

The Tigers are without left back Andrew Robertson and midfielder Robert Snodgrass, with Josh Tymon and Markus Henriksen expected to replace the injured duo.
