According to 90Min, Liverpool are interested in a move for Leeds United’s Kalvin Philips.

This is a very exciting rumour for the Reds, but we have to imagine that it will be music to the ears of one Liverpool player in particular – Jordan Henderson.

Indeed, Henderson is a big fan of Phillips, the pair have played together on numerous occasions for England, and the Liverpool captain has made it no secret how much he admires The Yorkshire Pirlo, going on the record to discuss his admiration for the midfielder.

What’s been said about Phillips?

Henderson was full of praise for Phillips after his Euro 2020 showing against the Czech Republic.

“Kalvin’s a very good player, you’ve seen that in the games he’s played not only for Leeds but for England,” Henderson said.

“He’s done fantastically well and he’s a brilliant lad to have around.

“He’s been a big player for us but we’ve got a lot of good players in midfield – Dec [Declan Rice], who’s been brilliant, Jude [Bellingham], who’s a fantastic talent who’s done brilliantly this season and when he’s come on, Mason [Mount], there’s a lot of talented players in the midfield area so we keep pushing each other every day in training but we also get on really well off the field, which is important.”

Perfect replacement

Phillips may initially partner Henderson at Liverpool if he heads to Anfield this summer, but eventually, he may well end up being the skipper’s replacement.

Sadly, Henderson isn’t getting any younger, and as we all know, Father Time is undefeated. The long-serving Liverpool legend will eventually slow down, but that blow will be softened for Liverpool if Phillips is in the squad.

The Leeds star already has Henderson’s seal of approval.
