Watford could soon sign Brazilian talent Matheus Martins with the Fluminense star set to join Udinese, with the teenager viewed in the summer as a reported replacement for Newcastle United target Joao Pedro.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks over the final details between Udinese and Fluminense are taking place for Martins, with the Italian journalist stating that the youngster could soon sign for Watford given the Pozzo Family network of clubs.

Udinese’s top talents eventually end up at Watford, and Martins could be another example of such a transfer, especially if the Hornets lose Pedro in January, who Newcastle tried to sign in the summer to add to their attacking ranks.

Sky Sports News reported that Newcastle had lodged a bid for the Watford prospect. However, the Championship side wanted at least £30m for the 21-year-old, a fee that Eddie Howe was simply not willing to pay, with the Magpies seemingly justified in their stance.

Pedro this season has endured inconsistent form with Watford with the Ribeirao Preto-born talent bagging just four goals and two assists in 13 appearances in the second-tier. Yet for Newcastle, this latest update surrounding Martins and Udinese could be of some interest.

Pedro’s season with Watford might not have stole headlines in the Championship, but with the Hornets soon set to bring Martins to Vicarage Road, Newcastle could attempt to raid the Hornets for the Brazilian prospect with the opportunity now on the table.

After all, Newcastle have a growing Brazilian contingent with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton two of the club’s most important players. And adding Pedro would be an exciting addition for the Magpies despite the youngster’s form this season, such is the attacker’s frightening potential.
