Bournemouth are targeting Neto with Arsenal fans no doubt delighted that rumours of a move for the Barcelona goalkeeper can potentially end.

We have grown accustomed to hearing the same rumours in every transfer window.

Nicolas Gaitan and Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United springs to mind, as does Leandro Damiao to Tottenham Hotspur.

Those rumours were some years ago now but still stick in the memory but coming up in ever window.

The more recent equivalent surrounds goalkeeper Neto and a move to Arsenal, which – just like those rumours mentioned earlier – has never actually come off.

Bournemouth are targeting Neto

Catalan newspaper SPORT reported in June that Arsenal were chasing Neto and agents were trying to make the deal happen.

The Brazilian was also linked in January, last summer, January 2021… you can see where we’re going with this.

Neto has been connected to Arsenal for so long but a move certainly doesn’t make sense right now.

Arsenal have secured a new backup goalkeeper in Matt Turner, with the American offering competition for Aaron Ramsdale.

Bernd Leno has moved on to Fulham but with Turner on board, there is absolutely no need for Neto to join Arsenal this summer.

Neto may still head to England though as Sky Sports report that Bournemouth are now in talks to sign the Barcelona misfit.

Barcelona left Neto out of their pre-season trip to the United States and he is now the subject of discussions between Barca and Bournemouth.

Neto, 33, is a vastly experienced goalkeeper whose best football came with Fiorentina and Valencia.

The spell at Juventus between those two clubs wasn’t ideal as he simply backed up Gianluigi Buffon, and it has been more of the same with Barcelona.

21 appearances in three seasons at Barcelona means it’s time for Neto to move on, with Bournemouth offering an escape route.

Finally, those Arsenal rumours seem to be drawing to an end – and Gunners fans will just have to hope that Neto doesn’t shine against them this season.
