Bordeaux are reportedly pushing to sell Alberth Elis in the January transfer window, with Leeds United one of the sides who were chasing the Honduran international earlier this year in the summer.
According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 2 side are looking to refresh the squad in January by renewing the contracts of key players ahead of their potential return to France’s top-flight. Yet Bordeaux view Elis as a player who is likely to move on no matter what happens this season, and therefore is likely to be sold in the new year.
Despite being Bordeaux’s best player last season as the historic French side were relegated down to the second-tier, Elis has fallen massively out of form this campaign, with the former Houston Dynamo star scoring just once in all competitions and making just four starts.
Hailed by L’Equipe as an ‘explosive’ player, the same publication also reported that Leeds was interested in signing Elis, with Whites coach Jesse Marsch no-doubt very familiar with the attacker based on his time managing in MLS with the New York Red Bulls.

Whilst Leeds have discovered their goalscoring touch in recent weeks, an extra attacker is what many supporters want to see come in during the January transfer window, and with Elis now being pushed out the door by Bordeaux, the versatile forward could be a great option for the Yorkshire side.
Indeed, with a valuation of £12m as per L’Equipe, there’s a good chance that Leeds could get a bargain fee for Elis with Bordeaux desperate to sell in January. And for Marsch, the former MLS coach could be the man to get the best out of the Central American superstar this season.
Leeds must move for Elis with Bordeaux eager to sell in January

Elis’ form this season has been poor, but given the nature of his situation, it makes sense why the attacker is way below his best compared to what the forward managed to do last year. And for Leeds, they simply have to move for the Bordeaux outcast in January.
After all, the French side are eager to offload Elis, and with Leeds needing an attacker to provide competition and depth, the Honduras superstar might be perfect for Marsch for what he needs in the January transfer window, especially given the American’s knowledge on the player in question.
