Leeds United want Alberth Elis and seem ready to strike for the Bordeaux attacker as they continue their summer recruitment drive.
The Whites have been very busy in the opening stages of the summer transfer window.
Playmaker Brenden Aaronson joined from Red Bull Salzburg before teammate Rasmus Kristensen followed on Wednesday.
Leeds aren’t done there and still need more reinforcements to avoid another relegation battle next season.
Jesse Marsch will be looking for another goalscorer and Bordeaux ace Elis now appears to be wanted.
Leeds United want Alberth Elis
French newspaper L’Equipe report that Leeds are showing a keen interest in signing Elis this summer.
It’s even added that offers have arrived on Bordeaux’s desk already, though it’s unclear whether one of them comes from Leeds.
Elis, 26, is likely to leave Bordeaux this summer after their relegation from Ligue 1.
The Honduras international was one of few players to shine for Bordeaux, notching nine goals in 20 appearances.
Elis is only on loan from Boavista but the idea would be to activate the permanent option in that loan and then sell for profit.
Leeds are positioning themselves for Elis in what could be a very interesting move.
The 26-year-old has been hailed as ‘explosive’ by Bordeaux director Admar Lopes and is known for his blistering pace.
Capable of playing down the right flank or up front, Elis would offer great versatility in the Leeds attack.
Another interesting note is that Marsch should know Elis well. Elis was starring at Houston Dynamo in MLS whilst Marsch was managing New York Red Bulls.
We have already seen Marsch go for two players he knows well in Aaronson and Kristensen, and whilst he has never worked with Elis, he will remember his quality.
With that in mind, Elis should be a name to keep a close eye on as Leeds seek a greater threat in the final third.
