McGugan is free to leave Sheffield Wednesday this month, with Queens Park Rangers, former club Nottingham Forest and a former boss, Birmingham City’s Gianfranco Zola, among the front-runners to sign him.

Bookmakers Bet Victor have listed Queens Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City among the front-runners to sign Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Lewis McGugan this month.

McGugan is free to leave Hillsborough, having failed to feature in Carlos Carvalhal’s plans this season.

And despite an apparent lack of offers, there’s no shortage of clubs lurking according to Bet Victor’s latest odds.

As many as many as six Championship and League One sides are listed as 6/1 joint-favourites to land the 28-year-old ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, including his former club Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City, who are managed by McGugan’s former boss Gianfranco Zola.

Queens Park Rangers, Barnsley and Preston North End are the other second tier clubs featured, along with Bolton Wanderers of the league below.

Forest, who were linked with a move for McGugan last summer, have recently added fellow midfielders Joao Teixeira and Aaron Tshibola to their ranks, with QPR signing Sean Goss to fill their own void, which could leave open the door for Birmingham, Barnsley, Preston or Bolton to pounce.
