Sheffield Wednesday’s squad contains more than 30 players.
Sheffield Wednesday’s squad is more than 30-strong already and with more new arrivals possible, several face Carlos Carvalhal’s axe ahead of next Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Claude Dielna
Transfer listed since the summer, the Frenchman is free to a good home – in fact, even a bad one will do. A move to Rotherham fell through at the end of the previous transfer window, although the Millers have changed manager (twice) since then.
Likelihood of leaving: 8
Urby Emanuelson
Signed as a free agent after the summer deadline, Emanuelson is yet to grace the turf as a Wednesday player. The former AC Milan left-back has been suffering from injury according to his manager, but with Morgan Fox arriving from Charlton this month he could be moved on should interest materialise.
Likelihood of leaving: 6
Lewis McGugan
Another made available for transfer by Carvalhal, who does not consider the midfielder to be part of his first team set up. Bolton have been linked but the 28-year-old’s high wages could be a sticking point. Most bottom-half Championship sides would want him if the price was right.
Likelihood of leaving: 8

Almen Abdi
Things haven’t quite worked out for a player to who looked to many like the Owls’ most exciting summer recruit. In theory, Kieran Lee’s injury should present an opportunity to the former Watford midfielder, although the latter is struggling for fitness himself. Swiss side FC Basel have been linked, however Abdi’s exit will only be sanctioned if the Owls can secure a replacement – and even then it’s perhaps unlikely.
Likelihood of leaving: 5
Jack Stobbs
As reported by HITC Sport earlier this month, Under-23s winger Stobbs is being eyed by several lower league clubs on loan. Having not yet experienced a prolonged spell at senior level, such a move could do him good.
Likelihood of leaving: 7
Modou Sougou
Signed as depth at the start of last season, Sougou has suffered multiple lay-offs over the past 12 months and, with Callum McManaman arriving on loan from West Brom this winter, Wednesday could look to move on the Senegal winger, whose contract expires in June.
Likelihood of leaving: 7
Marco Matias
Another who has struggled with injuries, preventing a repeat of the form shown in his early Hillsborough career. Several Portuguese sides have been linked with loans for Matias and the Owls may be willing to oblige.
Likelihood of leaving: 6
Will Buckley
Currently sidelined with a shoulder problem, the lesser-spotted Buckley is likely to find opportunities further limited upon his return to fitness – whenever that may be. Alternatively, Wednesday could retain the Sunderland loanee as cover.
Likelihood of leaving: 6

Atdhe Nuhiu
The towering Austrian has barely featured this year, unless the Owls have been either desperate or in need of winding down the clock. He should, however, stay put unless another striker comes in. German side St Pauli are said to be keen if not.
Likelihood of leaving: 5
Lucas Joao
Linked with Wigan on Monday, the Portugal striker’s future at Hillsborough looks especially bleak following the capture of Barnsley striker Sam Winnall. Six months elsewhere could hopefully prompt a return to last season’s form – although Carvalhal may have already seen enough.
Likelihood of leaving: 7
George Hirst
Still only 17 and with several strikers ahead of him, Wednesday could seek to loan out Hirst, whose scoring record for the Owls’ development sides and England’s Under-18s has been mighty impressive so far. That said, the son of Hillsborough legend David Hirst may be kept around, with the club’s own Under-18 side still going strong in the FA Youth Cup.
Likelihood of leaving: 5
