Don Hutchison says it would be ‘bonkers’ if Harry Kane stays at Tottenham Hotspur because Daniel Levy lures him in by offering to build a statue of the striker.
Given that Harry Kane is Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer and it’s a record that should outlive the 29-year-old, then regardless of what happens with his future in the summer, he should still probably get that statue.
But don’t bet against Daniel Levy still trying to convince the world that Spurs will win a trophy and his star man should probably sign a new deal.
It’s obvious to all that Kane deserves better and a team that is willing to push the boat out in order for him to win trophies in his career.
Those individual honours are staking up, and will continue to do so, but there is a big fat zero alongside his name when talking about team trophies.
Either way, former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison imagined the scenario of Kane actually not leaving, as he told ESPN.
“He might not even go,” said Hutchison. “Can you imagine the scenario if he doesn’t go and he falls for the Daniel Levy statue? That would be bonkers.
“I don’t think he is vain. I don’t think he has got that in his locker. I just think he would be getting sucked in, again.
“Every time he was close to leaving, you know what we will do, we will get Jose Mourinho, he will convince him because he’s a serial winner. Then we’ll get Antonio Conte, he’s a serial winner – he has been sucked in every single time and I wonder if Daniel Levy would say ‘we will build you a statute, just to keep you’.
“If you are Daniel Levy, then it’s worth an argument.”
KANE TO MANCHESTER UNITED?
After that drubbing at the hands of Newcastle United, Spurs will welcome Champions League rivals Manchester United to north London on Thursday night.
Defeat here all but ends their hopes of a top-four finish, but could this be Kane’s chance to show Manchester United what they are missing?
They are in need of that number nine in the summer and Kane’s name has been heavily linked for some while now.
