Sheffield Wednesday signed Jacob Butterfield after the Zungu speculation came to nothing.
Just months after he was linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday, Bongani Zungu is attracting interest from four clubs in Europe’s top leagues.
Zungu is said to have been a Wednesday target at the start of the season, as reported at the time by Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
However, despite liking a number of Owls fans’ tweets to suggest a switch to Hillsborough was on the cards, the South African midfielder later signed for Amiens from Vitoria Guimaraes.
And after only 22 games for the Ligue 1 side, Zungu could be on the move again, with Lyon, Marseille, Schalke and Torino all keeping an eye on him, according to Soccer Laduma (issue 1067, page 3).
Amiens paid £1.8 million for Zungu, as reported by Transfermarkt, with Wednesday left to sign Jacob Butterfield on loan from Derby County, in exchange for striker Sam Winnall.
The Owls later added Joey Pelupessy in the 25-year-old’s position, at a reported cost of £450,000 (Transfermarkt).
