Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Bongani Zungu has been inundated with tweets from Sheffield Wednesday supporters after a cryptic post on the social networking site.

Wednesday were first linked with the South Africa international last week [A Bola] and he proceeded to ‘like’ several tweets which suggested that a move to Hillsborough could be on the cards.

Then, after Soccer Laduma reported that an unnamed English club had offered £5.3 million for Zungu, the 24-year-old took to Twitter again on Monday – and prompted a flurry of excited responses from those of an Owls persuasion.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, the UK’s strict work permit requirements make it difficult for Zungu to sign for an English club at Vitoria’s reported asking price of €3.5 million [£3.1 million].

Nevertheless, it is possible that a higher offer could help to circumvent those rules, with Ramadan Sobhi’s 2016 transfer to Stoke City cited as an example.

It is thought that Wednesday’s Portuguese head coach, Carlos Carvalhal, is keen to strengthen in Zungu’s position ahead of another assault on promotion to the Premier League.

However, Primeira Liga giants Benfica and FC Porto – the latter of whom also play in blue and white – are both said to be tracking the former Mamelodi Sundowns player.
