Zinedine Zidane has left Real Madrid – and it could have negative consequences on Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new head coach.

The Spanish giants have confirmed that the legendary Frenchman won’t be in charge for the 2021-22 campaign.

Real failed to win either the Champions League or their own domestic league this past season.

Here’s how Gary Lineker reacted to the news on Twitter:

Merry-go-round

There’s a bit of a managerial merry-go-round at the moment but Zidane’s exit could potentially affect Tottenham’s search.

As Lineker pointed out, Real could very possibly now go for Antonio Conte.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Conte is among the managers being considered by Daniel Levy in terms of replacing Jose Mourinho at Spurs.

And it goes without saying that Conte – who left Inter Milan on Wednesday – may well feel attracted to that job more than the Tottenham one.

Massimiliano Allegri has also been linked with the role in North London but Fabrizio Romano revealed on his Here We Go podcast yesterday that the Italian wanted the Madrid job.

As it happens, Allegri is heavily tipped to be returning to Juventus and if Conte winds up in the Spanish capital, that’s two more names for Levy to cross off his reported shortlist.

In short, it seems like Zidane’s exit may set in motion a chain reaction which sees the Lilywhites – now linked with Mauricio Pochettino [The Athletic] – miss out on two more top coaches, having already been snubbed by Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann.
