Tottenham and Daniel Levy have left Jamie Carragher stunned as the Sky Sports analyst examines the situation in N17.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs are in a bit of a rut at the moment. The north Londoners are without a manager as well as a Director of Football, after Fabio Paratici’s ban from football followed the sacking of Antonio Conte.

Things got even worse on Monday when Tottenham dropped two points to 15th placed Everton, after Michael Keane netted a remarkable equaliser in the 90th minute to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Before that clash at Goodison Park, Carragher and Gary Neville assessed the managerial situation at Spurs, which has seen Levy appoint Cristian Stellini – Conte’s No.2 – to the role of interim manager.

According to the 45-year-old, it was “bizarre” of Tottenham to expect much change as a result of that decision.

Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “I think the appointment of his No.2 is bizarre, and I don’t think it’s very inspiring. I don’t think it’ll give them a massive lift. It’s Conte lite isn’t it? Whether that’s enough to get them top four, who knows.”

Stellini had recently made a name for himself after guiding Spurs to victory in all four of the games he managed while Conte was absent due to health reasons.

However, the Italian oversaw a disappointing display against Everton, which suggests Carragher was right – Tottenham’s players certainly didn’t seemed inspired last night by any means.

Tottenham must replace Stellini

In our view, Spurs cannot keep Stellini until the end of the season – Levy must act quickly to hire a permanent option.

Tottenham were in a strong position after sacking Conte, as no other Premier League side were on the lookout for a new manager.

However, the north Londoners have since been joined by Chelsea and Leicester in the hunt for a new boss, which makes Levy’s task more difficult.

Therefore, the longer he waits to find a permanent replacement for Conte, the more likely it is that this competition for managers increases across Europe.
