Ian Wright says Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea transfer target David Raya wants a move to a ‘bigger club’ amid rumours that he could leave Brentford in the summer.

The Arsenal legend described Raya, who is Brentford’s number one goalkeeper, as a ‘very, very good’ player and someone ready to take the next step in his career.

At 27, Raya has two caps to his name for Spain, but he clearly wants to add to those numbers, as well as win trophies.

Of course, joining a team in the Champions League and one that could help him secure the medals will also aid him on the international stage.

Come the summer, Raya is likely to be looking for a new club amid Tottenham and Chelsea interest because he will have 12 months left on his Brentford contract.

And Wright thinks the time has come for the shot-stopper to make that transfer, as he told Premier League Productions (06/03/23 at 7:40 pm).

“Well, Raya’s already turned down a contract and he has two appearances for the national team in Spain,” said Wright.

“He is somebody that wants to win trophies. He’s a very, very good goalkeeper. You can see that he probably needs to make, in his own mind, go to that next level of club to elevate himself more.

“He obviously wants to see him being Spain’s number one. A bigger club might happen for him. But he is a very, very good goalkeeper.”

TOTTENHAM MORE IN NEED

With Hugo Lloris recently turning 36 and his contract winding down at Hotspur Way, not forgetting his error-prone ways this season, then it’s obvious that his time is coming to an end.

Tottenham needs that number-one keeper more than anybody else.

That doesn’t mean Chelsea won’t splash the cash on one because that’s all they have been doing since Todd Boehly took to the hot seat.

Plus, there has been pressure on Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in recent seasons, despite the latter winning the Champions League with the London club.
