Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is reportedly keen to move to a UEFA Champions League club in the summer amid rumours that Chelsea and Tottenham want to sign the Spanish international.

According to Marca, the 27-year-old shot-stopper is eager to leave the Bees this summer and sign for a Champions League club, with the report stating that Chelsea and Tottenham are both chasing Raya, though the north London side are seemingly leading the race for the Brentford man.

With Antonio Conte’s side in strong contention to finish in the top-four whilst Chelsea languishes in midtable, Tottenham might have the edge over their west London rivals when it comes to winning the race to sign Raya, who could be perfect for Spurs.

Hugo Lloris is due to be replaced at Tottenham after 11 years of service as their undisputed no. 1, and with Raya now stating that he wants a move to a Champions League club, finishing in the top-four has just become that bit more important for Conte and his squad.

Indeed, Raya’s style of play is exactly what Tottenham need to evolve past Lloris, with the Brentford star good with his feet and an incredible shot-stopper for the Premier League, and a Champions League spot for Spurs could now see the north London side beat Chelsea to the keeper’s signature.

Although Todd Boehly’s chequebook is always a threat, Raya’s sporting goals could make any bid from Chelsea useless if he doesn’t want to join the Blues, who look set to miss out on top-four after a disastrous season under Graham Potter, much to the enjoyment of Tottenham and the Premier League at large.

A top-four finish has the potential to change a club’s fortunes for many years to come, and Tottenham are great examples of such success, with Spurs now in a fantastic position to beat a Premier League rival to a star in Raya in a deal that could be excellent for all parties.

Raya has more than earned the right to test himself at a top Champions League side having impressed for Brentford over the last two seasons in the Premier League, and Tottenham would be a suitable next step for the keeper if Spurs can claim a top-four finish come the end of the season.
