Marcelo Bielsa was linked with a move to bring Harry Winks to Leeds last summer – and now, the Tottenham man is available for a bargain £20m. Leeds are likely to bring in a number of signings this summer.
Brenden Aaronson is the first. Confirmation of his arrival came on Thursday, the USA international signing a five-year deal. He strengthens the midfield in the attacking department, but Leeds lack in other areas.

- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
A left-back, a striker, a replacement for the likely-to-be leaving Raphinha are all areas that need attention. As does cover and competition for Kalvin Phillips. Florian Grillitsch is a contender, in defensive midfield.
Winks, meanwhile, is set to leave Spurs this summer. The Mail claim Newcastle and Southampton are keen, with Spurs requesting a fee of £20million. Leeds wanted to sign him in the summer of 2021.
Leeds linked with Tottenham star Winks last summer: Bargain at £20m
Jesse Marsch has already hinted at Leeds needing more depth compared to Bielsa’s reign. They need another midfielder as a screen between defence and midfield. Winks needs game time, with the World Cup coming up.
Of course, Kalvin Phillips could depart. But even if he remains, bringing Winks in would be ideal for Leeds. Marsch’s 4-2-2-2 system, or 4-2-3-1 system, requires two defensive midfielders and Winks can partner Phillips.
A bargain at £20million, Winks could be the ideal midfield signing Leeds need. Whether they could outweigh Newcastle’s spending power in a move, though, remains to be seen. Winks has a contract at Spurs until 2024.
