Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli finds himself a man in demand right now, with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea all keen to sign him on a free transfer.
Bettinelli spent last season as Middlesbrough’s first-choice goalkeeper as Fulham allowed him to leave on loan inside the final year of his contract.
The 29-year-old hasn’t signed a new deal with Fulham, meaning he is now a free agent after his contract expired almost a month ago.
A return to Middlesbrough seemingly won’t be happening, and the former England Under-21 international is now wanted in the Premier League.
The Daily Mail reported last week that Aston Villa want to sign Bettinelli, but faced competition from both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Bettinelli fits the bill as homegrown cover for all interested clubs, offering a cheap option given that the can sign on a free transfer.
The Daily Mail now add that Bettinelli will snub Arsenal and Villa in favour of a move to Chelsea, with a medical allegedly imminent.
Staying in West London makes sense for Bettinelli, though there could still be time for Arsenal or Villa to change his mind.
Now, Bettinelli has told the Fulhamish podcast that he doesn’t know what the future holds but there are multiple offers on the table, and he’s excited about them.
That could be Arsenal, Villa and Chelsea, and Bettinelli added that he would have loved to have stayed at Fulham but it just wasn’t to be.
“For what the future holds, I don’t know right now,” said Bettinelli. “There’s definitely a few things on the table that I’m really excited about.”
“I would have loved to have stayed, my plan was to stay, but it wasn’t in other people’s plans at the club,” he added.
