
Tottenham supporters were rocked earlier today when former midfielder Mousa Dembele announced his retirement from football.
Taking to Instagram, the ex-Belgian international confirmed that he will be hanging up his boots at the end of his contract with current club Guangzhou City.
Dembele was a lynchpin in Tottenham’s two best Premier League seasons under Mauricio Pochettino when Spurs challenged Leicester City for the title and finished second the following campaign.
The 34-year-old is regarded by many fans and Tottenham players as one of the best midfielders to play for the north London club in the Premier League era. Yet after a 19-year career, Dembele has announced his retirement.
Dembele posted on his Instagram account: “I still have a year on my contract left. But I can already share I will stop my career after this year is finished. Thank you.”
Indeed, many Tottenham fans were fuming when the midfielder left the club for China in 2019, Yet following the news of his retirement, supporters on social media have poured in to pay tribute to Dembele.
