Former Arsenal star Alex Iwobi bagged his first Premier League goal of the season last night for Everton as the Toffees lost 2-1 to Wolves. And Gooners on social media were buzzing.
The attacker joined the Toffees in 2019 for a reported fee of £34m according to BBC Sport. And although Iwobi had some moments of magic for Arsenal, including an outrageous goal in the UEFA Europa League final against Chelsea, the attacker is yet to really get going for Everton.
Indeed, the Nigerian international has mainly been used as a utility man. With Iwobi playing at wing-back under Carlo Ancelotti. And now the forward is on the board for the season.
The 25-year-old scored a 66th-minute goal to halve Wolves lead over Everton at Goodison Park, but Iwobi’s effort was for nothing as Bruno Lage’s side were able to hold on.
Despite the poor result, Arsenal fans on social media were buzzing for Iwobi for getting his name on the scoresheet with a well-worked goal. The attacker made 149 appearances in total for the Gunners, scoring just 15 times.
Indeed, goal-scoring has never been Iwobi’s strong suit as a winger. But the attacker’s physicality and dribbling were much-loved by Arsenal supporters after his promotion from the Hale End academy.
Arsenal fans applaud Iwobi for Everton goal
