It’s no coincidence that Liverpool are enduring their worst start to a Premier League season for 10 years after selling Sadio Mane.

The Bayern Munich winger swapped Anfield for the Allianz Arena this past summer.

And well, it’s fair to say that Liverpool have missed the 30-year-old in a major way.

No winger was signed to replace the long-serving Mane, who joined the Reds from Southampton back in 2016, but Luis Diaz produced enough moments during the second half of last term to suggest he could fill the void left by the Senegalese star.

Prior to his injury versus Arsenal the other week, Diaz had struggled and only managed three goals in eight Premier League outings.

But if rumours are true, Liverpool could sign a better replacement for Mane – Wilfried Zaha.

According to CalcioMercato in Italy, the Anfield outfit are interested in Zaha in 2023.

The 29-year-old is available on a Bosman next summer and if Liverpool get him, what a bargain.

He has been labelled a Manchester United flop in the past, but the truth is that Zaha remains a fantastic talent and, crucially, one who’s proven in the Premier League.

He has 14 Premier League goals this calendar year and has netted five times this season, two more than Diaz.

In a few years, there will probably be no comparison between Zaha and Diaz, because the Colombia international has a frightening amount of potential and under someone like Jurgen Klopp, he’s only going to get much better than the Crystal Palace star has ever been.

But at 29, Zaha is in the prime of his career and for free, well this is an absolute no-brainer for Liverpool.

The Palace attacker isn’t on Mane’s level, but in a better team than the Eagles, he should pull bigger numbers – goals and assists – than Diaz has been.
