Gabby Agbonlahor views Tottenham Hotspur’s new capture James Maddison as a ‘better value for money’ signing than Mason Mount joining Manchester United.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United have signed two England midfield players this summer, but for Agbonlahor, it’s James Maddison who is the ‘better player’, as he told talkSPORT (04/07/23 at 6:50 am).

Spurs secured his talents from relegated Leicester City for £40 million, whilst Erik ten Hag has watched his team splash £55 million on Mason Mount from Chelsea, as reported by Sky Sports.

These are two huge moves for the English duo, with Maddison needing to make the move because Leicester dropped to the Championship.

Whilst there is a lot more controversy around Mount because Chelsea fans feel that he didn’t need to move and he should have signed a new contract instead.

Either way, for Agbonlahor, it’s Spurs that have got the better deal for two players that should be a part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

“I agree, £40 million for Maddison (is the best pound-for-pound deal),” said Agbonlahor. “When he is playing in a team that’s all coached around him as well.

“I just think he fits into that Spurs team as well. Getting on the ball. Harry Kane, you stay further up. Son, you make them runs and I will find you.

“Value for money at £40 million, it’s a no-brainer. A lot better deal than Mason Mount. I feel he’s a better player.”

Maddison more needed at Tottenham

For years, Spurs have been crying out for a playmaker or goalscoring midfielder in the ilk of Maddison. A player of touch and tease, someone who can create magic out of nothing and connect with the goalscoring machine that is Harry Kane.

Someone like Tanguy Ndombele was tried and tested, but ultimately he struggled, although he is back at Tottenham this summer after his loan spell at Serie A title-winners, Napoli.

As for Mount, he is facing more competition with ten Hag able to pick the Englishman himself, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.
