Well, Liverpool have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Cody Gakpo.
Prior to Boxing Day, speculation was rife that the Netherlands international would probably be going to the Red Devils.
Despite constant links to Liverpool, Fabrizio Romano claimed three days ago [Give Me Sport] that Manchester United were in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the PSV Eindhoven attacker, who scored three World Cup goals.
But on Monday, the Eredivisie outfit confirmed via Sky Sports that the Anfield outfit had agreed a deal to sign the player.

This is the latest star who Liverpool have pipped Manchester United to, with Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez also linked with transfers to Old Trafford prior to joining the Merseysiders.
And here’s how former Reds left-back Jose Enrique reacted to United missing out on another player.
No doubt Erik ten Hag will have had alternative targets, considering that missing out on Gakpo was always a possibility no matter how likely it seemed at one stage.
But there’s also no doubt that the 23-year-old was their priority and this will hurt.
Missing out on the player is one thing, but to see him join Liverpool, the old enemy, is another level of pain entirely and this will be very bitter for those at the Theatre of Dreams.
