Gary Lineker lauded Tottenham-linked Raheem Sterling on Twitter after England beat Germany 2-0 at Euro 2020 on Tuesday.
The Manchester City winger opened the scoring for his country as they progressed through to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
There were a lot of question marks over Sterling’s head before the tournament started, including links to Tottenham.
But three goals so far at Euro 2020 have answered critics who doubted him, including suggestions that Manchester City are willing to let him leave.
Nonetheless, Match of the Day host, Lineker, suggested he was England’s ‘best player by far’ today.
If Man City were ever thinking of possibly using Sterling in a deal to try and lure Harry Kane their way then they should be changing their mind pretty soon.
He scored the crucial goals during the group stages and now he added his goal against the German with an outstanding performance.
When Sterling puts his foot on the pedal then there aren’t many opponents who can touch him and that was the case against the German’s today.
Now, England will be looking at this tournament and thinking there isn’t a better chance to lift their first piece of silverware since 1966.
Not only are Gareth Southgate’s boys on the more favourable side of the draw, but France were also knocked out yesterday.
