Beram Kayal reflects fondly on Celtic spell

Beram Kayal left Celtic for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2015.

Brighton and Hove Albion central midfielder Beram Kayal has told The Sunday Post that he remembers his time at Celtic fondly.

Kayal joined Celtic from Maccabi Haifa in the summer of 2010 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £1.2 million.

The 30-year-old established himself as an important player for the Hoops in the following years and joined Brighton in January 2015.

Now playing in the Premier League with the Seagulls and earning £25,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com, the Israel international central midfielder has spoken fondly of his time at Celtic and the Glasgow giants’ fans.

Kayal told The Sunday Post: “I have been in the UK for nine years now, but I am still one of the Celtic Bhoys. It is an amazing club.

“I was just a young boy when I first went to Celtic, and the memories of the club, of Glasgow, and of the fans will never leave me.”

Back to Celtic?

Kayal has struggled to play regularly for Brighton in recent years – the midfielder has made just two starts in the Premier League so far this campaign and played only 740 minutes in the league last season, according to WhoScored.

While leaving the Premier League for the Scottish Premiership will be a step down, perhaps Celtic should look at bringing back the 30-year-old.

Although the Hoops do have a good midfield, a player of the Israel international’s experience and quality will make them better.

Kayal recently played for Israel against Scotland, and some Celtic fans were impressed with the midfielder’s performance, as reported on HITC Sport here.
