A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to praise Beram Kayal's performance as Alex McLeish's Scotland side were beaten 2-1 by Israel in UEFA's Nations League.

The Scots remain top of their group, but they had a fantastic chance to move clear when Charlie Mulgrew handed the visitors a first-half lead from the penalty spot.

But Israel responded superbly after the break, and Scotland were reduced to 10 men when John Souttar was shown a second yellow card when the score was 1-1.

The winning goal came when Hoops star Kieran Tierney slashed Kayal's ball into box past Allan McGregor and into his own net with just over 15 minutes remaining. Scotland could not find an equaliser and Kayal was given a standing ovation as he went off the pitch.

Unsurprisingly, a number of Bhoys supporters took note of the 30-year-old's display. Kayal spent four and a half seasons at Parkhead before leaving for Brighton in 2015. He made 132 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions and won four Scottish Premiership title medals.

And his superb performance against Scotland, several Celtic fans lauded their former star - some even suggested that Brendan Rodgers should look to re-sign the midfielder - and noted how he outperformed John McGinn, who had been heavily linked with a move to Celtic before he ended up at Aston Villa in the summer.
