Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will own 80% of Newcastle, Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will have a 10% share in the club, and the Reuben brothers – Simon and David – will have a 10% stake as well, according to The Times.
Keys, who used to be a presenter on Sky Sports and is now a presenter on beIN SPORTS, has said that the takeover will go through this week.
The presenter has also suggested that current Newcastle owner Mike Ashley could open SportsDirect stories in Riyadh after the takeover is completed.
Keys wrote on his blog: “Mike Ashley has a lot to answer for if the deal goes through – and if half a dozen Sports Direct outlets open in Riyadh over the next few weeks then we’ll all know what it was really about.
“I’ve said for months that there’s another deal on the table – and the Daily Mirror’s article a week ago proved me right. The American, Henry Mauriss wants it and he’s not short of a few bob.
“Surely that deal would suit the Toon Army? Why not? It would get the PL out of a tight corner, that’s for sure.”
The beIN SPORTS presenter added: “I expect the Saudi deal will get the nod of approval this week. If so – good luck to everybody connected with the club.
“As for the rest of us – as I said – stream away. What a sad, unprincipled world we live in. Be careful what you wish for Mr Masters. And all of you on Tyneside.”
Critical
Keys has been critical of the prospective new owners of Newcastle before, earlier claiming that current owner Ashley does not like Staveley and had raised doubts about the takeover going through (click here and here to read more).
Looking to the future
Newcastle fans must be looking forward to the coming years under the prospective new owners.
While the Magpies are an established club in the Premier League, they could and should be doing much better.
The St. James’ Park faithful will hope that the prospective new owners invest money in the club and sign quality players over the next two or three transfer windows to make the team competitive.
