Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this evening.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Liverpool will draw 1-1 at home with Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

Liverpool have been in dire form in 2017, as they’ve still won just one game in their ten games in all competitions since the start of the calendar year – and that solitary victory came against League Two side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

Recent defeats to Swansea City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull City have cast a real cloud over Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp desperately looking for an answer, with the returns of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane yet to reap any rewards.

Liverpool’s title hopes are over now, and the Reds have even dropped out of the top four, with Manchester United even breathing down their necks in sixth place, meaning a run of results is needed again.

Klopp’s men face a tough task this evening though, as Mauricio Pochettino brings his Tottenham side to Anfield in search of yet another victory.

Last weekend’s 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough means it’s now seven wins in the last nine, with no league defeats since being defeated 1-0 at Manchester United exactly two months ago today.

Sitting in second place, Tottenham still have aspirations of a title challenge, but will need to pick up a win at Anfield this evening to pressurise leaders Chelsea, who sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Ahead of the game, pundit and former Liverpool ace Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks this is a good chance for Liverpool to turn in an improved performance, predicting a 1-1 draw between the two sides, though he thinks Liverpool must be wary of Tottenham’s threat on the counter-attack.

“I think this is a good game to get an improved performance out of Liverpool – a bit like the Chelsea game was last week,” said Lawrenson. “The Blues were one of the few teams to have come to Anfield in the past few weeks and not just sat with all their men in their own half in a 4-5-1 formation.”

“Tottenham are good defensively and well organised full-stop, but their full-backs will bomb on and that will give Liverpool some space to work with, especially on the counter-attack,” he added.
