Celtic outclassed Rangers for the umpteenth time on Sunday at Parkhead, but not everyone seems to be convinced.
Time and time again, Celtic, whether it’s Ange Postecoglou winning the Treble, the first version of Brendan Rodgers or his return, have been throwing around their opponents like a rag doll.
You would assume the countless trophies and titles speak for themselves, but Graeme Souness seems to think that the gap between Celtic and Rangers isn’t that big.
Celtic beat Rangers 3-0 and they didn’t even break a sweat – after going unbeaten in the Glasgow derby last term – and they already have a five-point lead over their rivals.
You would think Philippe Clement’s Rangers would be more concerned about Aberdeen and their 100% start to the new season because, in most people’s eyes, they are miles and miles away.
Whilst one ex-Rangers captain in Souness seems to be in denial, it’s fair to say that another in Barry Ferguson doesn’t share those views.
Ferguson was present at Parkhead at the weekend as Celtic ran riot against their rivals and he admitted that he has ‘no complaints’ about what he saw.
It needs to be noted that derby day king Kyogo Furuhashi had a goal ruled out for offside, but Rangers still didn’t learn their lesson because James Tavernier’s tormenter Daizen Maeda opened the scoring, before two outrageous goals from Kyogo and captain Callum McGregor.
Ferguson was asked to share his thoughts on the gap between Celtic and Rangers, following Souness’ comments and he was pretty blunt with his response, as he told Go Radio.
Celtic and Rangers gap
A Celtic fan asked: “I was just coming from work and watching Graeme Souness with Jim White and he was saying that the gulf in class between Celtic and Rangers isn’t that big. I know you guys are very open and honest on this show, what’s your thoughts on what Graeme Souness is saying?”
Ferguson responded: “On the evidence of the game, yes, there is certainly a big gulf. Look, the manager has mentioned there have been 12 players out of the door (at Rangers) and 12 new players coming through the door.
“Yes, it’s going to take a bit of time, but the game, the strength in depth that Celtic have got. You could see the quality that they have got. I have no complaints. They are the better team, in my opinion, won the game. When Celtic get into that final third, they are constantly a threat and they get in behind the wide areas. When that Kyogo goal got caught offside, you have got to learn from that. Then what happens with Maeda’s goal? It’s a carbon copy. They don’t learn their lessons – Celtic score so many goals like that.”

Celtic’s squad depth
Adam Idah returned to Celtic this summer after his successful and trophy-winning loan spell last season, which included the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final.
Then there is Celtic’s club-record transfer of Arne Engels. These players came off the bench against the Gers, but they weren’t needed.

Rodgers was able to ease them in because the game was done and dusted by the time they entered the pitch.
That’s a further sign that the gap between the two clubs isn’t just enormous, but it’s growing and growing because Celtc have serious squad depth following the big sale of Matt O’Riley.
