Arsenal fans think that their chances of signing Martin Odegaard are over, after Zinedine Zidane left Real Madrid last night.
Odegaard has spent the past season on loan at Arsenal and has impressed during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Widespread reports suggest that Arsenal have made the playmaker one of their top targets for the summer.
It was felt that Zidane didn’t truly rate the Norwegian, who he almost always seemed happy to loan out.
But Madrid are now set to have a new manager in place, following the news of Zidane’s departure.
And Arsenal supporters fear that could be bad news for them in their pursuit of the £50 million-rated 22-year-old (Goal).
Big blow?
If Arsenal cannot land Odegaard it could be a blow to them ahead of the new campaign.
Odegaard is now fully versed in Mikel Arteta’s football and he wouldn’t have had to undergo a transition period after signing.
The Madrid man has only spoke positively of Arsenal publicly and seems very settled in North London.
But the appeal of staying at Madrid and fighting for a place under a new manager is obvious.
If Arsenal do miss out on Odegaard, Goal.com suggest that they are expected to go for Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia.
The Argentine has really caught the eye in the Championship, but may not be as ready to step in and make an immediate impact in an Arsenal shirt as Odegaard would be, after spending the last six months at the Emirates.
