Newcastle United are leading the race for Manchester United central defender Axel Tuanzebe, according to The Manchester Evening News.

The report published today (12:54pm) has claimed that Newcastle are the frontrunners for the former Aston Villa loanee.

The 23-year-old central defender wants to leave the Red Devils on loan, and Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is keen on signing a centre-back.

Blow for Aston Villa

Villa have also been linked with a move for Tuanzebe.

The Sun reported over the weekend that Dean Smith’s side are keen on signing the English youngster on a loan deal.

Today’s claim that Newcastle are leading the race for the young defender will be a blow for Villa.

Good move for Axel Tuanzebe?

Newcastle are a big and established club in the Premier League, and Tuanzebe would love playing in front of the St. James’ Park faithful.

If the 23-year-old hits the ground running and does well at Newcastle, then the fans will love him and will cheer him on.

With Raphael Varane joining United this summer, Tuanzebe could struggle to even get into the Red Devils’ matchday squad this season.

Newcastle manager Bruce worked with Tuanzebe at Villa and will know how to get the best out of him.
