Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal for FC Barcelona in January, and this weekend’s El Clasico clash against Real Madrid might have been the forward’s best performance this season.

The Gabon international was banished from the Gunners squad by Mikel Arteta in December and eventually released by the club in the January transfer window, with Aubameyang signing for Barcelona on a free transfer in the final days of the winter market.

And since the move, the 32-year-old superstar has been in sensational form, with Aubameyang scoring nine goals in all competitions for Barcelona in just 11 games, more than what he managed for Arsenal this campaign.

And this weekend saw the former Borussia Dortmund star perhaps play his best game for Barcelona yet, with Aubameyang playing a starring role in the El Clasico as Xavi Hernandez’s side demolished Madrid 4-0 in a statement win for the Catalan giants.

As per Squawka, the night belonged to Aubameyang as the African striker terrorised Madrid’s defence, with the Barcelona hero bagging two goals, an assist, and having six shots in a Man of the Match display.

With five of Aubameyang’s shots hitting the target, the striker could have easily bagged himself a hat-trick and doomed Madrid to one of their worst losses against Barcelona in some time.

Indeed, it might be easy to assume Arsenal have made an error releasing Aubameyang based on his incredible performance for Barcelona against Madrid, but the Gunners’ own result this weekend showed that couldn’t be any different.

Arsenal this Saturday made it five away wins on the trot, a feat not accomplished since 2015. And with Arteta’s squad the strong favourites to claim fourth spot in the Premier League, letting Aubameyang leave has been as much a stroke of genius than an error on Arteta’s part.
