There has been a lot of positivity recently at Arsenal regarding the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners skipper is into the final year of his contract and a number of people expected him to leave the club this summer.
However, multiple comments from Aubameyang himself and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta brought in a wave of optimism around the Emirates.
The former Dortmund man claimed recently that he was very happy at Arsenal, was happy that Bukayo Saka extended his contract and also said that he saw signs of improvement under Arteta. (Read more here)
Arteta too claimed recently that he is ‘pretty positive’ that his star striker will extend his contract. (Guardian) Arsenal fans were delighted with both of those quotes but Aubameyang has now dropped the biggest hint about his future yet.
Aubameyang was recorded in an Instagram Live video with his half-brother Willy which was visible to all of his followers.
A fan asked Aubameyang in the chat to ‘blink’ if he was going to extend his deal and the Arsenal skipper obliged with a big smile on his face.
Huge hint but nothing’s confirmed yet
That, by no means, is a confirmation that Aubameyang will sign a contract extension at Arsenal. However, Gunners supporters feel like it is only a matter of time before it is announced.
Aubameyang has scored 19 times in the Premier League this season. Without the striker’s goals, Arsenal would be in the lower half of the table with European qualification out of question.
Thankfully for the Gunners, the Gabonese international stepped up when many others didn’t and Arsenal are now in a good position to make it into the Europa League next season.
If Aubameyang does stay, Arsenal’s chances of success under Arteta will increase massively in the coming seasons. Arsenal fans will hope that it is done but as we have seen many times before, anything is possible until he signs the contract.
