Cody Gakpo was one of the most sought-after players in Europe this summer.
Off the back of a Player of the Season campaign, Gakpo was courted by a number of Premier League clubs. Newcastle were reportedly very keen, while Leeds and Southampton failed with Deadline Day moves for the attacker.
Gakpo eventually ended up staying at PSV, and his form so far this season has shown the Premier League exactly what they’re missing.
Indeed, the 6ft2 wide player is, once again, lighting up the Eredivisie. Not only is he the top scorer in the Netherlands’ premier competition, but he’s also the number one creative force in the league, notching more assists than any other player thus far.

Simply put, Gakpo is the total package, he can score, he can create and given his physical stature, we can’t help but feel he’d be a star in the Premier League as well.
Unfortunately, he’s going to be playing his football in the Netherlands for the next few months, and sadly for a club like Leeds United, he may well be out of their reach by the time January rolls around.
If Gakpo continues to provide goals and assists at this rate, he’ll be attracting more serious interest from Europe’s elite clubs, and while Leeds are a fantastic team, a player like Gakpo may not find it difficult to find a move to a club that harbours ambitions of reaching tha latter stages of the Champions League this season.
Where Gakpo goes next remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, this is a young player with bags of talent who looks like he’s headed for the very top of the game.
